Basic Tree Climbing Course

In our 20 hour Basic Tree Climbing Course, we'll go over all the basics of Double Rope Technique (DRT). This versatile method is unique to tree climbing and an essential skill for all tree climbers. Also, DRT requires minimal equipment - which means a lower investment in gear when starting out. We maintain a 3:1 Climber to Instructor ratio to provide a personalized level instruction.

Students who successfully complete this course will be competent in the following skills:

  • Use and care of equipment specific to the sport of tree climbing (all necessary equipment will be provided).
  • Tree inspection
  • Tree entry and setting the rope
  • Knots and tying the DRT climbing system.
  • In-tree throws and transfers
  • Basic rescue
  • Ethics and basic safety protocol

-Climbing on multiple ascending systems
-Rappelling and use of a variety of descending devices
